For our 2026 yearly theme, What was I looking at again?, we are looking for a Marketing & Communication intern to join our team. In this role, you will support the communication team of The Hmm and help make sure our activities stand out clearly and recognisably across our channels.
This is an internship of (30-38) hours per week, where you will work closely with our communication team to help share our activities with a wider audience.
The Hmm is an incubator for internet cultures. We explore and celebrate what people do online, whilst critically assessing the technologies that shape us. We nurture new media forms through events, exhibitions, and edutainment.
What will you be doing?
- Supporting the management of The Hmm’s social media channels, including Instagram, Discord, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Pixelfed, and Telegram, following the communications publications plan.
- Update the website through WordPress.
- Sourcing or creating images, writing captions, and publishing posts and stories.
- Writing promotional materials and visuals for events, such as GIF flyers, stickers, and visual assets based on existing templates.
- Creating copy for editorial newsletter, or writing contributions to social media sections such as ‘word of the week’
- Creating fun livestream elements such as emotes.
- Supporting communication during events by creating and sharing Story-format content.
- Assisting with general marketing and communication tasks within the team.
Our ideal candidate:
- <3s the internet and has a strong interest in internet culture.
- is attentive to what’s happening online and can creatively incorporate this into our communication
- Is creative and able to translate ideas into engaging visuals and posts.
- Is enthusiastic about The Hmm and understands how to communicate our serious, but fun, tone of voice.
- Can switch gears quickly and prioritise tasks with our strategist, even around events or deadlines.
- Is flexible and comfortable working across different types of tasks, from social media content to event materials.
The Hmm is a growing organisation. We are a small and close-knit team of five people working in a flat organisation. We are open to the qualities and input of all employees and encourage innovative thinking. Our office is located at the NDSM in Amsterdam and Hybrid working is possible.
